Meet Dr. Jennifer Denkin

I feel very honored to be witness to people’s lives and stories for the last 20 years and I find my role in helping people to be very rewarding. My style is non-judgmental, compassionate and collaborative. I try to make therapy enjoyable, even when the work is so hard. I consider myself to be easy to talk to and “down-to-earth” and build strong rapport with all my clients.

My orientation begins from a systems perspective. I believe that isolating one symptom or one aspect of one’s life does not capture the depth of the human experience. Psychological and emotional struggles usually arise from a history of patterns of thinking, behaving and feeling that are reinforced by real-life experiences. Most people are motivated to make changes and feel better but with little insight into these patterns and not having the tools to make changes, we often get stuck in a rut. These ruts become more apparent and more difficult for us in times of transition such as graduating college, getting married, retiring, becoming a parent or making a career move.

I utilize the best parts of many theories and therapies and develop an individualized plan with each patient that includes a combination of psychodynamic, CBT, ACT, behavioral and humanistic elements. I work with clients to set goals to not only resolve their presenting problem but to improve their relationships, find more success in their career and feel connected to their community. As a trained health psychologist and behavioral medicine specialist, I also have a strong focus on health-related behaviors and address sleep, nutrition, exercise, hobbies and stress management.

My holistic approach allows me to see my clients as whole people (flaws and all). When we are seen as a whole person we can find self-compassion, learn to accept ourselves and truly feel confident. Maslow would say this achievement is one step closer to the grand goal of self-actualization. I would add that it is the most important step to living an authentic and happy life and it is attainable. It is my intention to help guide you along the way and I hope to meet you soon.
